SECTION 1
THIS IS TBS MAILLIST(TM)
Thank you for your interest in TBS Maillist(TM). TBS Maillist is
a name & address management utility for IBM(TM) Personal Comput-
ers, Personal System/2(TM), and other PC compatible computers.
TBS Maillist is a simple, name and address management program. A
online, context sensitive help system provides help with the
press of the F1 key. TBS Maillist was written to provide a
simple means of entering names for a variety of different groups,
and to be able to retrieve them and to print out mailing labels
and lists by group.
TBS Maillist gives you a simple, straightforward, menu driven
system to allow for all operations, such as entering names and
addresses, and printing mailing labels and lists. The only limit
that you have on the number of names in the file is the amount of
disk space available to you.
This document describes the installation and usage of TBS Mail-
list. It also describes many features and functions of the pro-
gram. Once you begin using TBS Maillist, you'll discover more
about how it works from the on-line help facility and by experi-
menting with the various commands.

SECTION 2
INSTALLATION
2-1 System Requirements
TBS Maillist requires an IBM PC, XT, AT, PS/2 or compatible
computer with 512K RAM (or more) to work properly. In addition,
version 2.0 or greater of PC-DOS or MS-DOS is required.
TBS Maillist requires approximately 320K of computer memory to
contain the program's executable code and common data. Additional
memory is allocated as required.
TBS Maillist works well with the IBM Monochrome Display Adapter
(MDA), Color Graphics Adapter (CGA), Enhanced Graphics Adapter
(EGA), Video Graphics Array (VGA), and compatibles. Other video
adapters that can emulate either the MDA or CGA should work
properly.
2-2 Installing TBS Maillist
Installing TBS Maillist is a very simple process. Basically, we
will be creating a subdirectory on the hard disk and coping the
contents of the floppy disk to the subdirectory. The following
makes the assumption that you will be copying from drive A: to
your hard disk C:, and that the name of the subdirectory you will
be using is NAMES.
C:>MD NAMES
C:>COPY A:*.* C:\NAMES
PLEASE NOTE!
There may be important information on this release of TBS Mail-
list that did not make it into this manual. Please check the
READ.ME file on your distribution diskette for the most current
data. Thank you!

Maillist Data Entry Screen
The program will prevent you from entering a duplicate Name, if
you need to enter a duplicate, enter a middle initial, put a
extra space between the first and last names, add a title, such
as Mr. or Mrs. to the end (otherwise the entry will be listed in
the M's).
When you enter the Zip Code, the system will do a lookup to
get the city and province names. If the postal code has not been
entered before, you will be prompted for the City and State
and the information will be added to the Zip Code file.
The type code allows you to group entries of a similar nature
together and to then print out mailing labels or shipping labels
for that group only. For example, you could use a F to indicate
Friends, C for Customers, and V for Vendors, etc. If you do not
have a large number of names, or if they are all in the same
category, leave this field blank.
Comments allow you to enter 2 lines of 30 characters of notes
about this person. The comments will print on the rolodex cards
and on the 2 Long Reports.

3-3 Add/Change Zip Codes
This option allows you to enter (or change) Zip Codes that you
use frequently. The first time that you use a code in the
Add/Change Names option that does not exist in the Zip Code
file, it will be added to the Zip Code file, but this option
allows you to set up new Zip Codes at one time.
(Note: You can download a file from our BBS at 714-840-3767 that
has 42,309 Zip Codes for the United States. This file is 507,000
characters in size and the download time will take about 40
minutes. You can order the file from us for a $4.00 fee. When
this file is uncompressed, it will take up about 1,750,000 bytes
of disk space.)

state, and postal code. The Long Reports (by Name or Zip

APPENDIX B - PRINTER CONTROL CODES
Printer control codes allow you to put your printer in condensed
mode and back into normal mode. When entering control codes
with values less than 32, enter the value by holding the ALT key
down and entering the number on the numeric keypad. For exam-
ple, most Epson and Epson compatible printers use CHR(15), or
CTRL+O, to place the printer into condensed mode, (and
CHR(18), or CTRL+R, to quit condensed mode). To enter this
value, hold down the ALT key, enter 15 on the numeric keypad
(not the numbers above the letter keys), then release the ALT
key. To set a HP LaserJet to print 16.7CPI, one command is
ESC&k2S, or "27 38 107 50 83", to return to 10CPI is ESC&k0S or
"27 38 107 48 83". Here, you would hold down the ALT key,
enter each set of numbers, and release the ALT key between each
set. Or enter ALT+27 &k2S.
Numeric Values for different control codes are:
